International Chamber of Commerce unveils enhanced digital arbitration platform
The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has announced the launch of the next iteration of its digital arbitration platform, ICC Case Connect, which is now powered by Opus 2. This cutting-edge platform is set to be made available to users starting on 2 April 2025 and aims to enhance the efficiency and collaboration involved in arbitration processes.
The ICC, headquartered in Paris, is known for being at the forefront of international arbitration through its ICC International Court of Arbitration. The new version of ICC Case Connect is a significant update following the launch of the platform's first iteration in 2022. This redesign focuses on modernising the arbitration process by streamlining workflows and enabling secure collaboration among all parties involved—striving for improved case management capabilities and greater transparency.
Ana Serra e Moura, the Deputy Secretary General of the ICC International Court of Arbitration, commented on the development, stating, “ICC Case Connect powered by Opus 2 modernises processes with a seamless platform for document sharing, case management, and ICC Court decisions — all in one place. It has been redesigned for the way business works today, helping dispute resolution become more efficient.”
The collaboration with Opus 2, a leader in legal case management software and hearing solutions, will see the integration of advanced tools within an intuitive interface. This partnership is geared towards refining case management techniques and improving the overall experience for users. Future enhancements to the platform are also planned, including the integration of Amicable Dispute Resolution (ADR) cases.
Currently, ICC Case Connect serves over 10,000 party representatives and more than 8,000 arbitrators, operating in a secure, centralised, cloud-based environment. This allows all stakeholders—including parties, arbitral tribunals, the ICC Secretariat, and the Court—to collaborate seamlessly from anywhere in the world.
Key features of the platform include:
-
Enhanced e-filing: The system offers a user-friendly portal for electronic submission and processing of arbitration requests, facilitating faster case progression along with an integrated filing fee e-payment system.
-
Secure digital document management: Centralised case files enable real-time access and secure sharing of important documents, ensuring all parties can retrieve necessary information instantaneously.
-
Dedicated party and arbitrator portals: Tailored secure portals provide users with personalised experiences, including access to documents and case notifications tailored to their specific roles.
-
Financial management tools: Integrated financial processes enhance efficiency while assisting in the oversight of arbitrator expenses.
-
Administrative efficiencies: The platform optimises ICC operations, task management, and workflows to enhance decision-making processes, ensuring arbitration proceedings progress smoothly.
-
Customisable user accounts: Users can manage and personalise their accounts, which enables collaboration and facilitates secure case administration.
-
Self-registration for arbitrators: This new feature allows prospective arbitrators to increase their visibility by submitting relevant information directly through the platform.
Charlie Harrel, Chief Operating Officer at Opus 2, expressed satisfaction with the collaboration, saying, “We’re incredibly proud of what we have built with the ICC. Collaborating with them on this project has been a real pleasure. From having a clear, strategic vision to recognising the value of replacing multiple, redundant technologies with a single, purpose-built solution, ICC has been driving important advancements that elevate the quality of global dispute resolution proceedings.”
The launch of ICC Case Connect powered by Opus 2 marks a progressive step in the ICC's ongoing mission to make dispute resolution services more accessible and efficient.
