CIBSE launches building for the future campaign to steer engineering towards sustainability

The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers has launched a campaign to establish a legacy and foster innovation in the sector, coinciding with their new head office opening.

The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) has officially launched the "Building for the Future" campaign, aimed at establishing a significant legacy for the building services engineering profession. This initiative coincides with the inauguration of CIBSE's new head office, which is envisioned as a centre for innovation and lifelong learning.

In the context of increasing global commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions, the building services sector is viewed as integral to meeting these environmental targets. The new headquarters is intended to be more than just a physical space; it aims to become a significant hub for collaboration and sustainable building practices. CIBSE’s objective is to equip future engineers with the necessary skills and knowledge to address the industry's evolving challenges.

The new office will feature a state-of-the-art Skills Hub, functioning as a central point for CIBSE members and the broader built environment sector. It will include facilities such as a modern theatre for events, advanced training rooms for professional development, and collaborative workspaces that encourage networking and industry engagement.

Ruth Carter, CEO of CIBSE, emphasised the institution's commitment to fostering innovation and sustainability, stating, “At CIBSE, we are committed to fostering innovation, collaboration and sustainability in the built environment. Our new head office is more than just a new space; it’s a symbol of our commitment to shaping the future of the profession globally and ensuring that the next generation of engineers is equipped to meet the challenges of tomorrow.”

The "Building for the Future" campaign presents a unique opportunity for industry stakeholders to participate in a transformative initiative. With a focus on establishing the Skills Hub, the campaign aims not only to attract new talent to the sector but also to create a collaborative environment where expertise can flourish and innovations can be shared.

Contributions to the campaign will enable the establishment of this Skills Hub, helping to foster lifelong learning and development within the profession. Additionally, supporters will be acknowledged for their role in advancing an initiative that is projected to positively impact future engineers across the globe.

CIBSE invites members and partners of the industry to join in this campaign, which they describe not merely as a fundraising effort but as a movement to redefine the future of building services engineering. For those interested in more information, CIBSE encourages reaching out directly or visiting their website for details on how to get involved. The institution hopes this initiative will mark a significant chapter in the ongoing evolution of the built environment sector.
