Armenia joins European Federation of Internal Medicine as 43rd member

Armenia's recent admission to the European Federation of Internal Medicine marks a significant advancement in the country's healthcare representation and practices.

In a significant development for healthcare representation in Armenia, the country has been officially admitted as a full member of the European Federation of Internal Medicine (EFIM). This decision was affirmed unanimously during the 23rd European Congress of Internal Medicine and the EFIM General Assembly, which took place from March 5 to March 8, 2023, in Florence, Italy.

The inclusion of Armenia into this federation marks the expansion of its geographical representation, with Armenia becoming the 43rd member state of EFIM. The Armenian Association of Internal Medicine spearheaded the application process and facilitated the necessary discussions that led to this membership.

A delegation from Armenia, led by David Karapetyan, the head of Yerevan's Health Department, actively participated in the event. Accompanying him were Deputy Head Armine Zohrabyan, alongside the directors of four municipal medical institutions. This delegation underscored the country's commitment to aligning its healthcare practices with European standards and improving the quality of medical care for its citizens.

During the congress, the Armenian Association of Internal Medicine showcased its achievements over the past six years. The focus of their presentation included efforts to enhance professional development among internal medicine specialists, encouraging the exchange of knowledge and experiences, and advancing initiatives in preventive and longevity medicine. Notably, the association also highlighted its work on developing and adapting national standards and guidelines tailored for diagnosing and treating internal diseases in Armenia.

The strategic move to join EFIM is aligned with Armenia’s broader healthcare goals, aiming to elevate the country’s medical practices and healthcare administration. By being part of this reputable European federation, Armenia enhances its capacity to access resources, partake in research collaborations, and implement best practices in internal medicine.

The involvement in the EFIM also opens up avenues for Armenian medical professionals to network with peers from other European nations, which can lead to further educational opportunities and collaborative projects. Such integration is expected to strengthen Armenia’s healthcare framework and improve patient outcomes throughout the country.

Given the ongoing evolution of healthcare demands, Armenia's active participation in European healthcare discourse signifies a promising step towards the enhancement of public health strategies. It exemplifies a commitment to maintaining high standards of medical practice and advancing the well-being of its populace.

As the developments following this membership unfold, the impact on Armenia's healthcare system will likely be closely monitored by both national and European stakeholders. The future of internal medicine in Armenia may now see a transformative period with the backing and collaboration of European institutions.
