Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) is a global professional body dedicated to individuals working in environmental and sustainability sectors. With nearly 20,000 members worldwide, IEMA supports environmental practitioners by providing updates on current environmental laws and legislation, organizing regional events, and offering various resources to promote best practices in environmental management. 

IEMA publishes "Transform," a magazine for environmental professionals, which includes news, policy updates, environmental law information, and best practice guidance. The organization also offers training programs, approves training course providers, and provides a platform for environmental job listings. Additionally, IEMA is a constituent body of the Society for the Environment (SocEnv), enabling its members to achieve Chartered Environmentalist status.

About the role

An exciting opportunity exists for a Senior Marketing and Events Officer whose job it will be to work closely with the Head of Marketing to help deliver an annual engagement plan including the delivery of digital and in-person member events and delivery marketing campaigns for IEMA members with its aim to increase satisfaction and encourage member retention. The role will also be responsible for supporting the delivery of IEMA Connect; IEMA’s annual members conference, and to help support the development and expansion of partnerships with industry-leading events to increase IEMA’s profile.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver a programme of internally-led events, both digital and face-to-face.
  • Ensure that the engagement plan delivers on IEMA’s business objectives while pulling together a seamless experience for IEMA members.
  • Help to deliver the annual, online, global members’ conference, IEMA Connect, by planning the project inclusive of logistics and agenda, and being a core part of a project team to deliver a conference that will increase satisfaction and retention, and showcase our diverse profession.
  • Coordinate marketing campaigns to promote IEMA’s webinar program, including putting the webinar registration online, creating a promotional plan, and providing feedback from members after the webinar to support the development of the engagement program. The webinar series includes stand-alone policy and practice sessions, member-only series like How To, and policy consultations such as the Environment Bill.
  • Build relationships with industry event producers to help increase IEMA’s profile in line with business objectives through mutually beneficial working agreements, or contras. This includes researching current industry events, working with the senior leadership team to establish priorities, building relationships with event organizers, creating partnership agreements, and coordinating IEMA’s resources to deliver the agreements.
  • Brand guardian, ensuring that brand guidelines are adhered to across marketing platforms and materials, reviewing and updating branding resources, and making any suggestions for change.
  • Head of Marketing to help deliver effective marketing campaigns to support IEMA’s objectives for the retention of new individual members, the sale of training courses, and other partner activities.

Skills, Competencies & Experience

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Proven experience in planning and delivering effective marketing campaigns.
  • Proven experience in planning and delivering successful online digital and in-person events or projects.
  • Experience working with a broad customer base or membership.
  • Experience in using digital platforms to engage people. Must be comfortable and not phased in using technology for live events.
  • Knowledge and interest in the sustainability sector would be a distinct advantage

Essential:

  • Outstanding coordination and organization skills excellent attention to detail and the ability to consistently deliver on administrative tasks.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, Sharepoint Microsoft Teams, and other digital platforms
  • Ability to work independently, be a strong team player, have proven experience in developing strong relationships, and be able to communicate at all levels within the organization and externally.
  • Methodical worker who thrives on a busy workload, can work on your initiative, is decisive enjoys solving problems, and can think on your feet. 
  • Desire to produce high-quality work and continuously think of improvements.
  • Ideally also have an interest in sustainability as this is central to IEMA.
