About the Organisation
EPSO, the European Plant Science Organisation, has built a strong reputation for work in plant research and science policy at European and national levels. With currently 65 members representing around 200 plant research institutions, departments, or universities in Europe, our work supports all areas of plant science.
As a member of the EPSO team, you will use different sources of information and your inspiration to update and manage the EPSO website and social media, write our research program briefings, our newsletter,and articles for our website and our members. You will coordinate the International Fascination of Plants Day and the EPSO Outreach Working Group. The EPSO team consists of three staff members of different cultural backgrounds and with different expertise.
About the role
Publications Officer is responsible for managing and producing an organization’s publications, ensuring high-quality content and effective distribution to the target audience. This role is common in NGOs, academic institutions, professional associations, and government agencies.
Responsibilities
Content Development & Editing:
- Write, edit, and proofread publications, including reports, newsletters, journals, and digital content.
- Ensure clarity, consistency, and adherence to the organization’s style and branding guidelines.
- Work with subject matter experts to translate complex information into accessible language for various audiences.
Publication Management:
- Oversee the production process, from content creation to final publication, ensuring deadlines are met.
- Coordinate with designers, printers, and digital teams for formatting, layout, and distribution.
- Maintain a publishing schedule to manage multiple projects efficiently.
Research & Content Strategy:
- Conduct research to support content development, ensuring accuracy and relevance.
- Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in publishing.
- Support the development of editorial policies and guidelines.
Digital & Print Distribution:
- Manage digital publications, including online reports, e-newsletters, and social media content.
- Oversee the printing and distribution of physical publications where necessary.
- Ensure accessibility and engagement by optimizing publications for different platforms.
Stakeholder & Team Coordination:
- Liaise with internal teams, external contributors, and publishing partners.
- Work closely with communications, marketing, and policy teams to align messaging.
- Manage relationships with external vendors, such as designers, translators, and printers.
Quality Control & Compliance:
- Ensure all publications comply with copyright laws, data protection regulations, and accessibility standards.
- Implement quality control measures to maintain high editorial and design standards.
- Manage the archiving and cataloging of past publications.
Skills, Competencies & Experience
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Experience in publishing, communications, or journalism.
- Familiarity with publishing software (Adobe InDesign, CMS platforms, etc.).
- Knowledge of digital publishing trends and SEO best practices.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Experience with website Content Management System (WordPress), social media (X, LI, FB) and graphics (such as Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro);
- Excellent general written and verbal communication skills in English;
- Good organisational skills, a clear analytical mind, an ability to manage projects within deadlines, and an ability to work independently as well as in a team.
- Experience in a similar position;
- Experience in graphics program InDesign and in social media Bluesky;
- Knowledge of the European institutions and research funding instruments;
- Experience in taking video interviews and compiling these in short videos for YouTube.
Required Qualifications
- Undergraduate Degree (BSc, MSc, or PhD) in biological in agricultural Science
