About the Organisation
European Heart Network (EHN) is a Brussels-based alliance of foundations and associations dedicated to addressing heart disease and stroke and supporting patients throughout Europe. EHN’s mission is to promote cardiovascular health and the prevention and reduction of cardiovascular disease, with a focus on ensuring CVD is no longer a major cause of premature death and disability across Europe. This mission will be achieved through evidence-based advocacy, research promotion, networking, capacity-building, and representing patients and the public’s interests.
Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs)—including heart disease, stroke, and other atherosclerotic vascular diseases—are the leading causes of death in the European Union, resulting in over 1.8 million deaths annually. Additionally, almost 49 million people live with these conditions, which impose both a significant human and economic burden on the EU, costing approximately 210 billion euros each year.
