About the Organisation
Financial Mechanism Office (FMO) - affiliated with the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) - carries out the day-to-day management of the EEA and Norway Grants. The Grants are Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein’s contribution to reducing economic and social disparities in the European Economic Area (EEA) and strengthen bilateral relations and partnerships between the Donor States and the 15 Beneficiary States (Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Greece, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Malta, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia).
EEA Grants are financed by the 3 donor countries whereas Norway Grants are financed solely by Norway. We are now entering a new funding period with a budget of 3.2 billion euros. At the same time, we are closing the current funding period with a budget of 2.8 billion euros.
About the role
Junior Professional Programme (JPP) at the Financial Mechanism Office (FMO) offers recent graduates and young professionals the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in managing the EEA and Norway Grants. These grants aim to reduce economic and social disparities within the European Economic Area and strengthen bilateral relations between donor and beneficiary states.
Responsibilities
Project Support & Analysis:
- Assisting senior professionals in identifying, structuring, and executing investments in sectors such as energy, agribusiness, and financial institutions.
- Conducting market research and analyzing economic, social, and environmental data to evaluate project feasibility.
- Preparing financial models, project proposals, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
Portfolio Management:
- Supporting the monitoring and management of ongoing projects to ensure they align with FMO's sustainability objectives.
- Preparing performance reports on investments, identifying risks, and suggesting mitigation measures.
- Assisting in client communication and maintaining strong relationships with project partners.
Sustainability & Impact:
- Contributing to impact assessments, ensuring FMO's investments align with SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles.
- Supporting the development and implementation of strategies to maximize positive environmental and social outcomes.
Cross-Department Collaboration:
- Collaborating with internal teams such as risk management, legal, and compliance to ensure seamless project execution.
- Participating in internal working groups to develop innovative financing solutions and strategies.
Learning & Development:
- Engaging in professional development activities as part of the Junior Professional Programme, such as training sessions, mentorship programs, and exposure to international markets.
- Staying up-to-date on industry trends, challenges, and opportunities in development finance.
Operational Support:
- Assisting in the preparation of internal and external reports, ensuring accurate documentation of processes and outcomes.
- Contributing to ad hoc tasks and projects within the department to support FMO’s overall goals.
Skills, Competencies & Experience
- Experience of 1-2 years and knowledge of and a keen interest in one or more of the priority sectors and Beneficiary States would be an advantage
- Analytical mind with the ability to draft good-quality documents in English
- Flexible and motivated team player and capable of taking on a wide variety of tasks, both complex and more basic
- Fluency in both spoken and written English
- Knowledge of another EFTA/EU language is an asset
Required Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Law, Economics, Statistics, Political Science, International Relations, Business Administration, Computer Science, and other Relevant and Equivalent Degrees.
