About the Organisation
European Liberal Forum (ELF) is the political foundation and think tank associated with the ALDE Party, collaborating with over 45 member organizations across more than 25 European countries. ELF's mission is to develop policy-oriented research and capacity-building projects that promote liberal ideas throughout Europe
The ELF operates as an umbrella organization, bringing together liberal think tanks, foundations, and institutes from across Europe. It is composed of various member organizations that contribute to its activities and policy work. The organization is funded by the European Parliament under the framework of European political foundations.
About the role
Junior Policy and Research Officer plays a crucial role within ELF's Policy and Research Unit (PRU), contributing to the organization's research initiatives and policy development. This position involves close collaboration with the Project Unit and Communications Unit to ensure the timely execution and effective dissemination of research outputs and related activities.
Policy and Research Officer will contribute to the policy and research work of the European Liberal Forum, the think tank and political foundation of the ALDE Party. The Policy Officer will work closely with the Policy and Research Manager on publishing ELF’s own research and policy work and coordinating the project work of ELF’s members, in line with our Strategic Vectors, contributing to liberal thought leadership in the European Union.
Responsibilities
- Assist with policy papers, briefings, and other materials that highlight the organization's positions on key issues and help to conduct research with a focus on promoting liberal values, ideas, and policies across Europe.
- Help give practical shape to the policy and research work program and budget, and track progress against established goals and metrics.
- Monitor political and social trends in Europe analyze their potential impact on the organization's activities and priorities, and advise the policy and research manager on this matter.
- Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including policymakers, academics, think tanks, and civil society organizations, to inform the organization's policy positions and advocacy efforts.
- Plan and organize events, conferences, and seminars to promote dialogue and exchange among stakeholders on issues related to the organization's mission.
- Represent the organization at meetings, conferences, and other events, Possibility to engage in public speaking and media appearances where appropriate.
- Collaborate with colleagues in other departments to ensure alignment and coordination of the organization's research and advocacy activities with its communications, outreach, and capacity-building efforts.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor, including administrative tasks and support for other programs or initiatives as needed.s
Skills, Competencies & Experience
- Fluent in English is a must. Other languages are an asset.
- Excellent organizing abilities. Great attention to detail and analytical mind.
- Creativity: someone who gets excited by new ideas/concepts and is willing to help create new ways of doing our policy and research work.
- Outgoing personality who enjoys building a network and working in a team.
- Links to liberal political organizations or commitment to liberal values.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in a field related to ELF’s Strategic Vectors i.e. Technology, Computer Science, European Law, European studies, Foreign relations.
