About the role

Business Europe's Economics Department works in close cooperation with experts in national member federations to develop business views on macroeconomic policies, structural reforms, access to finance, taxation, and the EU budget. It is at the forefront of BusinessEurope’s work to improve European competitiveness and the functioning of the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU).

In this role, you will work with our members to prepare our two yearly economic forecasts and our flagship annual Reform Barometer. You will monitor and analyze EU policy proposals and will draft position papers and briefings on key issues such as EMU governance, Europe’s competitiveness strategy, and the EU budget. In addition to contributing to high-profile publications, you will have the opportunity to prepare high-level speeches and presentations for senior business representatives, as well as to take advocacy actions towards the EU institutions.

Responsibilities

Economic Analysis & Research:

  • Conduct research and prepare analysis on various economic issues relevant to European businesses, such as growth trends, fiscal policy, trade, and labor market developments.
  • Assist in preparing economic forecasts, reports, and position papers for BUSINESSEUROPE’s leadership and member organizations.
  • Monitor and analyze economic data, reports, and policy developments from the European Commission, the European Parliament, and other institutions.

Policy Development:

  • Support the development of policy recommendations aimed at improving business conditions in Europe.
  • Assist senior staff in drafting policy briefs, speeches, and presentations on key economic topics.
  • Contribute to BUSINESSEUROPE’s advocacy activities by preparing data-driven arguments and briefing materials.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Liaise with BUSINESSEUROPE member organizations and external stakeholders to gather input on economic matters.
  • Assist in organizing meetings, workshops, and conferences to present BUSINESSEUROPE's policy positions to European policymakers and business representatives.
  • Coordinate with internal departments to ensure that economic policy positions are aligned with other policy areas, such as trade, employment, and industrial policy.

Support for Senior Advisers:

  • Provide administrative and analytical support to senior advisers in the Economics Department.
  • Prepare briefing notes, memos, and presentations for internal and external meetings.
  • Help manage projects and initiatives that aim to promote a favorable economic environment for European businesses.

Skills, Competencies & Experience

Skills, Competencies & Experience:

  • 2 years of relevant professional experience;
  • Excellent economic analysis skills;
  • Knowledge of EU economic policy issues, e.g. EMU, European Semester, EU budget and recovery plan;
  • Understanding of the functioning of the EU institutions;
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills in English. A good knowledge of other European languages is an asset;
  • Proficiency in IT tools and in particular, extracting and preparing data using Excel;
  • Pro-active and dynamic personality, with team spirit, multi-task, well-organized, and flexible.

Abilities:

  • Assimilate the various aspects of an issue rapidly (Economic, legal, political) and to meet tight deadlines;
  • Transform technical input into clear messages and adapt to the audience;
  • Define and implement advocacy strategies;

Required Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Economics, Business, Finance, or a related field.
