About the role
This position involves close collaboration with all colleagues involved in policy, networks & partnerships, membership, and project management to ensure the highest possible impact of the activities across the organisation. The Communications Team is part of EPHA’s Organisational Development Department, which supports and amplifies the impact of EPHA’s initiatives. Besides communication, that includes capacity building, project management, stakeholder engagement, funding coordination and more. Within this core team, the successful candidate will work closely with their colleagues of the Communications Team and report directly to EPHA’s Senior Projects Manager.
Responsibilities
Strategic Communications Leadership:
- Develop and implement long-term communication strategies to enhance EPHA’s impact. Guide the team in understanding the broader communication direction and profile by considering EPHA’s broader strategy and the EU policy landscape when making decisions. Foster collaboration within and outside the communications team to ensure alignment, efficiency, and strategic consistency.
Team & Organisational Development:
- Lead, mentor, and manage junior colleagues. Oversee staff inductions and training and implement internal policies and processes to enhance efficiency. Provide strategic direction and guidance, conduct performance evaluations, and support staff in achieving their objectives while ensuring alignment with EPHA’s overall mission.
Internal & External Communications:
- Develop and distribute reports, newsletters, and social media content to promote EPHA’s brand. Liaise with members, collaborate on campaigns, and support high-level meetings.
Digital & Social Media Management:
- Oversee EPHA’s LinkedIn, BlueSky, and daily content creation, ensuring consistent messaging.
Event Management:
- Oversee and organise event logistics, coordinate suppliers, and manage post-event materials, recordings, and dissemination.
Website & Database Oversight:
- Maintain EPHA’s website and manage the CiviCRM database for mass communications.
Project Communications:
- Lead communication efforts for EU-funded and philanthropic-funded projects, including content creation and social media strategy. Develop and implement EPHA’s communication strategy for projects, ensuring alignment across initiatives. Coordinate the inclusion of EPHA’s communication activities in project proposals and support the team in strengthening this aspect.
Campaign Development:
- Oversee the design of visuals, infographics, and advocacy materials while collaborating with external partners.
Skills, Competencies, & Experience
- Proven track record in (public) health policy (Equivalent education in a health-related discipline, with a strong track record in communication.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience and 3 years of professional experience combined
- Demonstrated knowledge of EU health-related policies, experience in promoting climate and health co-benefits, and knowledge of policies impacting air quality is an advantage.
- Knowledge of strong affinity for EU public health policy.
- Strong interpersonal skills and an attitude for teamwork, especially in a multicultural, multilingual setting.
- Experience in team leadership and line management, including mentoring and fostering a collaborative work environment. Ability to provide strategic direction, manage workloads effectively, and support professional development within the team.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities, able to adapt to evolving project needs and environments and competing priorities. Ability to work autonomously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (C1 level required); other European languages are a plus.
- Ability to effectively communicate complex topics in creative ways to different audiences.
- Ability to write well-structured and compelling content.
- Ability to collect statistics across communications platforms (website, social media, etc).
- Experience in creating and managing content for social media; Knowledge of tools like Canva or InDesign; Proficiency in maintaining WordPress websites; Experience in developing websites with knowledge of HTML and CSS is an asset.
- Experience with marketing mail campaign platforms and working knowledge of CiviCRM are assets.
- Experience working on EU project communications is an asset.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Science Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, and similarly relevant
