About the Organisation

Black Swimming Association (BSA) is a UK-based nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting water safety, increasing swimming participation, and addressing inequalities in aquatics among Black and ethnic minority communities. The BSA was founded in 2020 to tackle the significant barriers that prevent people of African, Caribbean, and Asian heritage from engaging in swimming and other aquatic activities.

About the role

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is the highest-ranking executive in an organization, responsible for leading and overseeing its overall strategy, operations, and financial performance. The CEO sets the vision, makes major corporate decisions, and ensures that the company achieves its short- and long-term objectives while maintaining profitability and sustainability.

The CEO plays a pivotal role in shaping an organization’s success and long-term vision. It requires a combination of strategic foresight, operational expertise, financial management, and leadership skills. The role demands resilience, adaptability, and a forward-thinking approach to drive growth in an evolving business landscape.

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and implement the organization’s strategic vision, mission, and goals.
  • Provide direction to senior executives and management teams.
  • Ensure the company remains competitive in its industry.
  • Identify growth opportunities and potential risks.

Operational & Financial Management:

  • Oversee daily business operations and ensure efficiency across all departments.
  • Manage the company’s financial health, including budgeting, forecasting, and investment decisions.
  • Approve major expenditures, acquisitions, and partnerships.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and ethical standards.

Stakeholder Management:

  • Represent the organization to key stakeholders, including investors, board members, employees, and clients.
  • Build and maintain relationships with government agencies, industry partners, and the media.
  • Engage with shareholders and ensure transparent communication.

Team Leadership & Culture:

  • Foster a strong company culture and promote employee engagement.
  • Lead and inspire the executive team and senior management.
  • Ensure diversity, equity, and inclusion within the workplace.
  • Oversee talent acquisition, retention, and leadership development programs.

Innovation & Market Positioning:

  • Monitor industry trends and adapt the organization’s strategy accordingly.
  • Drive innovation and digital transformation to improve business processes.
  • Ensure that brand positioning and marketing strategies align with business objectives.

Skills, Competencies & Experience

  • Proven experience in senior executive leadership, preferably as a CEO, Managing Director, or equivalent role.
  • Strong financial acumen and understanding of corporate governance.
  • Exceptional leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
  • Ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships and drive business growth.
  • Background in business administration, finance, or a related field (MBA preferred).
  • Navigating economic uncertainties and market fluctuations.
  • Managing investor expectations and ensuring financial stability.
  • Balancing short-term profitability with long-term sustainability.
  • Leading digital transformation and adapting to technological advancements.
  • Upholding corporate social responsibility and ethical business practices.
