From idea to impact: Building a flagship event from scratch

Strategies for successful event launches

Launching a new event can be a challenge for associations, especially when the goal is to create something impactful from the start. For organisations looking to break the mould and make a bold statement, this seminar will offer insights into how to develop a new (flagship) event that not only delivers on its promises but also leaves a lasting legacy.

In 2024, the Personal Investment Management & Financial Advice Association (PIMFA) introduced the Women’s Symposium, their new designed to support and promote the role of women in the financial services sector. Instead of building momentum gradually, PIMFA opted to launch big—with 63 speakers, 372 delegates, and a two-day programme packed with speeches, panels and workshops. The event’s success earned recognition as the ‘Best New Event’ and has become a leading light for inclusivity focussed content and conferences in the sector.

Join Michella Oswald, Head of Events and Stephen Reinhardt, Strategic Planning Manager, the architects of this event to hear about their experiences of producing the event and offering best practice advice for event teams launching a new initiative.

This seminar will cover:

  • Creating a proposition: How to define what the event will be and its significance for your audience.
  • Building an agenda: Tips for designing a robust, multi-stream programme with numerous speakers.
  • Driving attendance: Strategies to attract a new and engaged audience to your event.
  • Commercialising the event: Ensuring the financial viability of a bold new venture.
