I’ve worked with 8 different Board chairs. By far and away, the greatest variable in our association performance has come from the relationship that exists between me and my Board chair. When we are aligned and aware of our respective roles, we are able to fight battles well beyond our weight limit. When we are not aligned, we flounder along from one crisis to the next. I attended the Leadership Symposium with our board chair and it will really help to maximise our performance over the coming years, and has already helped us align our vision for the association.
This symposium gave me and our new president a better idea of each other's roles and asked some essential questions for the preparation of our next strategic plan.
This was a great opportunity to step away from the day to day, and to discuss together as leaders of the staff group and leaders of the Board strategic setting, to best determine how to work together. The forward looking aspect helped us consider new board members and ensuring they have impact.
