Enlightenment and engagement at #MemEngage2017

As your new Membership and Marketing Manager here at AAE, I want to share with you my moment of enlightenment when I took part in our Engage2017 Member Engagement Conference earlier this month. I was there both as host and delegate. It’s been a long time since I attended an event as a delegate and I was quite excited.
My moment of enlightenment
My moment of enlightenment was when Pippa Shepherd was sharing the story of how the Freight Transport Association developed a scoring model to understand their members. A scoring system, like Trip Adviser I thought. And yes, it’s similar except they use data to score their members along with organisation-wide action-based KPIs. In this way, they tailor their propositions and engagement strategy according to their members needs and have a view of where they need to increase engagement. What a brilliant concept I thought and I became very excited at the prospect of utilising data and a scoring system to interpret the needs of AAE members and thus grow member engagement and increase member satisfaction. I can’t wait to get started…..
Meeting people face-to-face
The day was packed full of good educational talks and networking and over the course of the day, I managed to network with most of the other delegates. You’ll appreciate how difficult it is to try to meet everyone, as you’re probably always networking yourself. The people I did meet were pleased that I was meeting them face-to-face as AAE Membership Manager. It’s always welcome to put a face to a name and helps to develop relationships further. In fact, I had already spoken to some of the delegates on the ‘phone as part of our welcome journey for new AAE members so we were able to pick up where we had left off.
Importance of engaging
Since building and launching one of the first online business communities - Business Startup Community in 2004 as part of an engagement strategy for The Business Startup Shows, I have learned just how important it is to engage with members both online and face-to-face to grow a business. So by the end of the day at Engage, following great informative talks from speakers and bountiful networking, we were all ready for a long, cool drink and we were not disappointed.
